Этот блог создан как место для диско музыки. Моему поколению хотел бы дать возможность вспомнить времена когда жизнь казалась проще и интересней, а для людей более молодых возможность открыть для себя что-то новое.

This review is from: Think It Over (Audio CD)
I shockingly found this CD issue on another website and purchased it, but to review it...FAB! Cissy's THINK IT OVER was a statement in the late 70's. We all know her as Whitney's mom, but Cissy was first. Where do you think Whitney got the voice? This album can prove that.
The album is complete with all tracks from the original release, except the title track is the 8:03 remix after this album was repacked by Columbia with 4 extended versions of tunes and retitled WARNING-DANGER CISSY HOUSTON. Once you start listening to all the tracks, you just want to get up and boogie to the dance tracks and melt into the heartfelt ballads (After You and I Just Want to Be With You). The additional bonus tracks are pulled from the Private Stock album issued the year previous to THINK IT OVER, titled simply CISSY HOUSTON (green cover). These are the best of all from that album, especially Love Is Something That Leads You. I am hoping that MIL Multimedia will take the balance of that album, plus future tracks recorded for 1980's STEP ASIDE FOR A LADY and give Cissy her full justice with the best of her late 70's-early 80's magic. She brought down the house with her shows at the Bottom Line and Mikell's in NYC during this time, and prepared Whitney for the musical journey she is on now. Whitney sang back up on these albums, plus in these shows, and added an extra punch to what Mom already gave to the audience when she did a brief solo.

SALSOUL RECORDS
This is a Greek-only commercial compilation from the catalogue of the Salsoul Records Salsoul Records Salsoul Records is a New York City based record label founded by brothers Joe Cayre, Ken Cayre, and Stanley Cayre. From 1974 to 1985, Salsoul released about 300 disco 12-inch singles, and a string of albums. Artists such as Instant Funk, Loleatta Holloway, Carol Williams, Jocelyn Brown, Double Exposure, First Choice, Joe Bataan, the Salsoul Orchestra (led by Vincent Montana Jr), Inner Life, Skyy, and Charo were at one time part of their roster. Salsoul released the first commercially available 12-inch single, Double Exposure's Ten Percent, in 1976. Salsoul Records also manufactured and distributed Gold Mind Records' output. Because of the resurgent interest prompted by Marky Mark and Black Box recordings in the late 1980s and early 1990s, the label's catalogue has been digitally remastered. It is notably more popular in Europe and the United Kingdom than in the United States. The label's name was conceived by artist Joe Bataan, who recorded some of the earliest sessions for the Cayre brothers (predating the label's formation). "Salsoul" was street lingo for the musical culture of urban Latinos who were absorbing African-American popular music and infusing into their own culture, as well as vice-versa. Bataan had chosen the name for an LP he made for the Cayre brothers.

This review is from: Crème de la Crème - Philly Soul Classics and Rarities
This set brings together a couple of acknowledged classics and more than a few lesser known tracks, from the Philly Soul genre. So it's no surprise that you'll hear loads of mid tempo, string laden smooth sounds.
The opening track is therefore, untypical, since it's driven by a conga and the stings are hardly noticeable, but it's soon on to the familiar groove, with little to break it out - and that's the problem here, it's just too much of the same for listening in one go.
That said, there are some sublime tracks here, both the opening and closing tracks would be enough to make me buy the album if I didn't have them in my collection, and Bettye Swann is an under-rated songstress, while Major Harris' well known "Love Won't Let Me Wait" is a seduction classic
So, primarily one for the afficionados, with some classics that every Soul collection should have.

"Diana Extended: The Remixes" is a remix album released by American soul singer
Diana Ross in 1994.
Six tracks were reworked by some of the biggest names in the industry at the time
and cover Ross' career as a solo artist and as a member of The Supremes, with
Frankie Knuckles updating "Someday We'll Be Together" from 1969.
The set also contains a track released during the diva's stay at RCA (see "Chain
Reaction").
The seventh track is "You're Gonna Love It" a track from the album The Force Behind
the Power. The version on Diana Extended: The Remixes is a short remix available
previously on a 12" single.
The album was only moderately successful on both sides of the Atlantic, reaching #58
on the UK charts and #68 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums, while missing the Top
200 entirely. "Someday We'll Be Together" was released as a single and peaked at #
7 on the Hot Dance Music/Club Play charts (April 1994).
The US version of the album was released on Motown, and European/Japanese
versions on EMI. Tracklistings were the same, but special editions were also issued.
Many remixes, including those by Joey Negro, weren't included on the album but
instead only on the many singles released for the club market..

Workin' Overtime is a 1989 album released by American soul singer Diana Ross, released on the Motown label. It was Ross' first Motown album since 1980's diana after Ross left the label for a then-record breaking $20 million deal with RCA. Upon Ross' return to the label, Motown founder Berry Gordy, Jr. had sold the label to MCA Records and had positioned Jheryl Busby to the head of Motown. Ross was at first reluctant to return to her old label but Gordy promised her a lot in her return: not only would Ross return to Motown as a recording act, but she would be the label's part-owner. Ross reunited with collaborator Nile Rodgers to make this album which was an attempt to gear her to a much younger audience bringing in new jack swing productions and house music.
Upon its release, the album failed to generate sales and despite the Top 5 R&B hit with the title track, the album disappeared quickly, reaching only #116 on the Billboard 200 album chart (earning the dubious distinction of being the lowest charting studio album of Ross' entire solo career). Additional singles "This House" and "Bottom Line" were issued, as well as a remix of "Paradise" remixed by Shep Pettibone, but all failed to revive the project.

With her light, airy vocals, Bronx-born Cory Daye helped to transform Dr. Buzzard's Original Savannah Band into one of the most exciting bands of the late-'70s disco era. Creating some of the earliest disco recordings, Daye and Dr. Buzzard's Original Savannah Band skillfully mixed big band, swing, jump blues, Broadway tunes, and Caribbean influences into their infectious dance music.
After three albums with Dr. Buzzard's Original Savannah Band, Cory Daye enlisted the songwriting and production of Sandy Linzer to replicate her former band's sound on her solo debut, Cory and Me. Linzer was a particularly appropriate match for Daye, since he had already worked with Odyssey on their Dr. Buzzard-inspired disco classic "Native New Yorker." Perhaps hoping for similar Top 40 success, Daye seems more commercially motivated on Cory and Me, but that accessibility works wonders on the two opening cuts, "Green Light" and "Pow Wow." On both songs, Daye uses her playfully expressive voice to transform the potentially hokey lyrics into irresistible verses. Linzer combines propulsive beats with climactic orchestration and uses musical shifts and timely special effects to build momentum during extended instrumental breaks. Daye's charm and enthusiasm are contagious throughout, but the rest of the songs fail to match her energy level, and the scattered Dr. Buzzard touches often seem diluted by the album's mainstream ambitions. Nevertheless, most Dr. Buzzard followers will probably enjoy the familiarity of Cory and Me, and the album may also appeal to fans of late-'70s disco divas who are unfamiliar with Daye's considerable talents.

Bee Gees Greatest is a compilation album of songs by the Bee Gees, released in 1979 by RSO Records. Coming soon after the blockbuster studio album Spirits Having Flown, Greatest was a summary of the Bee Gees' most recent period of success, 1975-1979. A remastered and expanded version of the album was released by Reprise Records in 2007.
BACKGROUND
The original release was a double album, with album sleeves and labels featuring pictures of each brother on the label and all three brothers on side four, while each record sleeve was adorned with the Bee Gees Greatest logo. Side one contains disco tracks featuring "Jive Talkin'", "Night Fever", "Tragedy", "You Should Be Dancing" and "Stayin' Alive". Side two contains ballads and featured "How Deep Is Your Love", "Too Much Heaven", "Love So Right", "(Our Love) Don't Throw It All Away" and "Fanny (Be Tender with My Love)". Side three consists of B-sides and album tracks such as "If I Can't Have You", "You Stepped Into My Life", "Love Me", "More Than a Woman" and "Rest Your Love On Me". Side three also consists songs that spawned cover versions for other artists. Side four contains "Nights on Broadway", "Spirits (Having Flown)", "Wind of Change", "Love You Inside Out" and "Children of the World".
Two charting singles, "Boogie Child" and "Edge of the Universe" were omitted in favor of tracks that other artists had hits with such as "Love Me" and "If I Can't Have You" (Yvonne Elliman) and "You Stepped Into My Life" (Wayne Newton). Incidentally "Boogie Child" reached the same Billboard position as Yvonne Elliman's version of "Love Me", while Wayne Newton's recording of "You Stepped Into My Life" only peaked at 90. "Boogie Child" did appear in the box set Tales from the Brothers Gibb, but it was again passed over on the double disc set Their Greatest Hits: The Record from 2001. Greatest was released on CD as a two disc set, but has since has been deleted domestically with the release of The Record.
On September 18, 2007, Reprise Records released a remastered and expanded version of Greatest. Many of the tracks on Greatest have been previously remastered, but the album contain the first release for remastered versions of "You Stepped Into My Life", "Rest Your Love on Me", "Wind of Change", "Spirits (Having Flown)" and "Children Of The World". In addition, there are extended versions of "Stayin' Alive" and an unreleased Bee Gees track, "Warm Ride", which was written for the group Rare Earth. The re-release contains new mixes of "You Should Be Dancing", "If I Can't Have You", "Night Fever" and "More Than a Woman" and as a hidden track, a new mix of "Stayin' Alive". Billboard's unofficial policy states a album requires at least 33% new material to qualify as a new release; Bee Gees Greatest contains about 28% new material, thus making it a re-issue.
RECEPTION
Bee Gees Greatest topped the Billboard album charts early in 1980, becoming their third consecutive number one album. The re-issue of Bee Gees Greatest debuted at #1 on Billboard's Pop Catalog charts for the week of September 30, 2007. There was some question as to whether Billboard was going to treat this as a new release or a re-issue. The set scanned over 20,000 copies for the week, making it the 35th best selling album in the country, good enough to place in Billboard's Top 40.

Neoton Família (or in some countries, The Newton Family) was the one of the most successful Hungarian pop-bands, spanning several decades, with changes in members and line-up. Most active from 1977 to 1989, they released albums and toured in several foreign countries, also producing many of the most known hit songs in the country.
BAND HISTORY
The band was founded in 1965 by László Pásztor and Lajos Galácz, studying Economy in Budapest, on the occasion for entering the school's annual Santa Claus music contest. Out of the two bands entering, Neoton, named by their Cheslovakian guitar finished second. Three years passes until their first major success, winning of the country-wide Who Knows What contest in 1968 with the song Nekem eddig Bach volt a mindenem. The same year marked the release of their first hit song Kell hogy várj. In 1971 they released their first album, Bolond város, featuring Lajos Som and Ferenc Debreceni, future drummer of the band Omega. While sales did not go well, it helped them to arrange a tour in Africa. After arriving home, some members quit, and the fate of Neoton became uncertain.
From 1973 to 77 they cooperated with girl band Kócbabák, who first appeared at 1972's Who Knows What. After a joint album, the two group decided to merge, with a renewed style and name, becoming Neoton Família. They released an album in the same year titled Csak a zene, and toured socialist countries.
1979 proved to be a turning point for Neoton Família, as they got the chance to accompany the Hungarian entrants on the Midem festival in Cannes, and also play a few tracks of their own - gaining the interest of some foreign music industry officials. They released the album Napraforgó, which finally secured their fame, later producing an English version, that became a hit in Japan, Denmark and the Philippines and several other states. The following years proved to be busy, including a Japanese tour of 42 cities. For 4 years onwards, the band released an album in each year, with more and more composers working on the team, a condition that not only provided great songs, but suspense. This led to the dissolvement in 1990.
Most of the members continued their musical careers (touring as Neoton and Éva-Neoton). György Jakab was diagnosed with a terminal illness, passing away in 1996. His dream, a last concert was produced without him, but to his memory, in 1998. Answering the pressure of the fans, another concert was held seven years later, in 2005, following several more in the oncoming years under the name Neoton Família Sztárjai.

This review is from: The Best of George Baker Selection (Audio CD)
This album shows the greatest of George Baker it's easy listerning funky music. As soon as i heard the track little green Bag I was hooked it's also used in the film resiviour dogs. Its great for all age groups and as being a teenager it make's you want to get of off your feet and dance. All the way through the album there's never a dull moment. Totally fab music!!!
GEORGE BAKER SELECTION
n 1967, Bouwens joined the band Soul Invention, which later changed its name to "George Baker Selection." Their first album, Little Green Bag (1970), gave them their first hit. Their debut single, "Little Green Bag", reached #16 position on the Cash Box magazine chart and #21 in the Billboard Top 100 in the United States. This disc sold over one million copies globally, and received a gold disc. By 1972 the band had sold over 5 million records.
Their fifth album Paloma Blanca was released in 1975, and the single "Paloma Blanca" reached #1 in the charts in several countries.
In 1978 the George Baker Selection split up because "the pressure had become too much." The band has sold over 20 million records worldwide. George Baker formed a new George Baker Selection in 1985, which stayed together until 1989. The band has released twelve albums and several compilation albums.
The band experienced a brief return to the international charts in 1992, when the song "Little Green Bag" was used in the title sequence of the film Reservoir Dogs, and a Chilean soap opera.
SOLO CAREER
After the George Baker Selection split up in 1978, Baker performed as a solo artist until 1985, when he briefly returned with a new George Baker Selection. Since 1989 he is a solo artist again.[1] In 2005 he released a remix of the song "Una Paloma Blanca" for the film Too Fat Too Furious. As a solo artist, he has released nine albums, and is currently managed by Jaap Buijs.
