This review is from: Another Way [1982] [DVD] (DVD)

Shot in 1982, Another Way, is set in late 50s Hungary, where the repression on political expression is symbolized by the lesbian love between two femalereporters, Eva and Livia(a married women).State totalitarianism invades personal feelings, and lesbianism is shown as a form of dissidence. There is no special pleading on behalf of lesbianism or gender issues, nor is it filmed in a way to give a detailed examination of lesbian practises. The film looked back at 1956's upheavals and the consequences of them.Eva is as headstrong in her writing as she is in lo(comfortable in her lesbianism) she writes an uncompromising report of state brutality used to force the farmers to found the collective. The piece is too radical even for her supportive editor, and he makes changes, Eva resigns in protest. When the couple discuss lesbianism they use lexical evasions,so dissident literature likewise, to express forbidden points of view.Livia is torn between a desire for illicit love and a 'normal' family life. This is a metaphor for the vulnerability of human identity in restrictive external circumstances. Makk's condemnation of social repression of sexuality is equal to that directed at state oppression of dissidence.A sensitive portrayal of lesbian love and social coercion on individual identity.

Brotherhood of Man are a British pop group who won the Eurovision Song Contest in 1976 with "Save Your Kisses for Me".

The group was created by songwriter and record producer Tony Hiller in 1969 and scored a worldwide hit with "United We Stand" the following year. By 1974 the line up had changed to the quartet Brotherhood of Man would become most famous for. The group became successful in Europe, before returning to do the same in the UK. After winning the Eurovision Song Contest in 1976, Brotherhood of Man enjoyed three years of hit singles and albums.

Following a decline in sales, the group split, but reformed two years later and are still together today, performing shows throughout Europe. They remain a successful live act in the UK and have occasionally released independently-produced albums.

This is the original UK pressing. Includes an unreleased track.

"Paying the Price of Love" is the first single off the Bee Gees' album, Size Isn't Everything. It was more reminiscent of the Bee Gees disco era than recent singles. With an uptempo hip-hop beat and soaring falsetto vocals, it was too heavy for adult contemporary radio, which is where the Bee Gees were primarily played in 1993. It reached the top 10 in Belgium and the top 40 in Austria, France, Germany, Italy, The Netherlands, and the UK. In the US, it did chart on the Billboard Hot 100, reaching #74, and made the top 30 on the A/C chart.

The promotional video for the song showed the brothers performing the song as holograms on a futuristic version of MTV--which could be considered ironic, as the video never aired on the network, but rather on its companion channel, VH1.

This is the original US pressing.

"Alone" is a song by the Bee Gees. It is the opening track on the multi-platinum Still Waters album released by the Bee Gees in 1997, and the first single from the album. The song is a pop ballad written by Barry, Robin and Maurice Gibb and recorded in 1996. The track was a big hit worldwide, peaking at #5 in the UK and dominating the charts in Hong Kong, Thailand and Malaysia at #1. This was also their last top 10 single on the MTV Asia Hitlist chart until their song "This Is Where I Came In" in 2001. In the U.S. the single peaked at #28, making it their final top 40 hit in that country.

Maurice Gibb explained about the track:

"That was one of the first ones we wrote for the album. I really remember having a good time writing it. We were sort of set up in the studio here with the three of us just together and I got some bagpipe sounds. We were just screwing around. And BG programmed this groove on the computer. We thought it was cool. We don't actually go in and plan to write a ballad or an R&B song. We just say, 'Let's go that route.' And we'll follow it. And Alone came out of that. I love the line 'I'm on a wheel of fortune with a twist of fate.' Because of the harmony and that chorus, it was like a bit of '50s as well. And I like the idea of being that sort of Beatlesque type of song. I wanted that rambling. That sort of Byrds type, the twelve string thing going, but we just did it with the bagpipes instead and made it all connect. It was a very exciting demo. We weren't too sure about the bagpipes, but Robin actually persisted. He said, 'They're great; you gotta keep the bagpipes."

Two promotional videos were made for the song. The first one, not shown in the United States, featured the brothers singing in a room, intercut with other imagery. The promo for the US featured the brothers recording the song in a studio, intercut with various clips of the brothers throughout the years, as well as segments of the original video.

"This Is Where I Came In" is a song by the Bee Gees. It was the first and only single from their final album and was featured as the last song performed on the live Bee Gees 1997 PBS special One Night Only before the album release of This Is Where I Came In as an "experimental" song at that time the song was titled "This Is Just (Where I Came In)" before being changed and shortend to the current song title, This Is Where I Came In, released in 2001. The song is a bluesy pop ballad written by Barry, Robin and Maurice Gibb. It reached #18 in the U.K. and #25 in Germany, but was not released in the U.S. "Just in Case" is a song from 1997, which was shown in the writing stages on the Bee Gees 1997 documentary Keppel Road. "I Will Be There" is a song from 1999 and presumably the demo version for Tina Turner, who recorded it on her 1999 album Twenty Four Seven.
